The tango "La Cachila" is a classic in tango music, composed by Eduardo Arolas ("El Tigre del bandoneón"), an extraordinarily talented composer, bandoneon player and tango avant-guardist.

The name "La Cachila" comes from a small bird living in the Argentine Pampas, called cachirla (or perhaps, it was the nickname of one of the composer’s female companions). Played for the first time in Montevideo, "La Cachila" has since been recorded an astounding number of times, as most orchestras include it in their repertoire.

Other prominent works of Arolas are "Comme Il Faut", "Retintin" and "Viborita". Along with these, "La Cachila", with its exceptional melody, sensuality and drama, stood out among the tangos of the "Guardia Vieja", paving a path for the arrival of modern tango.

The most famous recordings of "La Cachila":

Carlos Di Sarli (1941)

Aníbal Troilo with Roberto Grela (1954, play "Patio mío")

 Osvaldo Pugliese (1989)
